What are we trying to do?

Fund the construction and operation of our community pool and aquatic center. Prop 1 creates a Metropolitan Parks District (MPD), a Washington state tool that provides dedicated, long-term funding to design, build, maintain and operate parks and recreational facilities. This means no competition for the city's general fund and other city budget priorities.

There are 23 MPDs across the state of Washington, many of which operate and maintain pool facilities. For example: Colfax MPD, Des Moines Pool MPD, Normandy Park MPD, Odessa MPD, and Tukwila Pool MPD — among others across the state — all function to operate pools in their respective districts.

Where will it be?

On Aurora 99 between Trader Joes and Bella's Voice Thrift Store. It will be near the City hall and the Sculpture park as an addition to Shoreline's town center.

Why doesn't Shoreline have a pool?

Shoreline's pool, built in 1971, closed permanently in 2020 because of pandemic impacts, failing equipment, and disrepair. High school swim teams, seniors, children learning to swim, and other community members still miss it. In 2019, a bond measure to replace the facility received 54% support but fell short of the required 60% supermajority. Proposition 1 is different: it would create an MPD and requires only a simple majority—more than 50%—to pass.
